Sonam Kapoor gets hitched in style
This one was bound to be a treat for fashionistas all over the country! Sonam Kapoor, the fashionista of all fashionistas, declared that she would be getting married on the 8th of May, and the world went into collective and fashionable meltdowns. There would be fashion, there would statement pieces, there would be never seen before red carpet moments, all rendered with that Mona Lisa smile and twinkling eyes that she is known for. Here’s presenting the low down on all the outfits that Mrs Sonam Kapoor Ahuja (as per her Instagram handle) wore for her big day, and all the functions that were planned around it. She was styled by Anita Adjania Shroff for all her wedding events.
The MehendiThe bride did a smart thing by getting her Mehendi done the day before the actual Mehendi and Sangeet. It literally helped her remain hands free for the main function. For this day, she chose a subtle Anuradha Vakil number - a Sharara done up with Gota work. The pretty peach and gold hues met a more edgy silver and grey to give it all a chic touch. She pulled her hair back and somewhere along the evening, she even managed to change from heavy jhumkas to smaller dangling gems. Planning, on point!
The Mehendi and Sangeet where she jangled her Kaleeras over her enthusiastic girlfriends and sisters, even as she matched step with all her guests, saw her in an ethereal Chikankari lehenga by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. This designer duo has been known for creating works of art, and Sonam had always sworn to include them in her wedding wardrobe. The ivory and gold number had taken many months to prepare and its scintillating back was every bit the folly for the intricate exotic embroidery.
The Wedding
The Anand Karaj may as well have been straight out of a fairy tale. Sonam donned an Anuradha Vakil lehenga, draped professionally by a draper. She is said to have recreated her mother’s wedding look, by choosing crimson and gold for her big day. Gold lotus flowers sat dominating the crimson hue, while her Rani Haar and choker perfectly complemented her fresh make up and the layered head jewellery by Amarapalli. Wow is just an understatement. After the actual ceremony, she changed into a pretty pastel hued number in barely there colours.
The Reception
Now this was a big one. The world had been waiting with bated breath for Sonam’s sartorial statement on this day. Would it be Ralph and Russo? No, she went with her traditional instinct and gave it a classy, edgy, modern twist. The chevron lehenga with its sculpted shrug plus chunni was by Anamika Khanna - her dream wedding couture artist. She swapped the glitter for a subtle shimmer and let the bold chevrons in a unique grey do all the talking. A simple yet solid necklace added to the look while her groom wore Nike sneakers with his Raghavendra Rathore bandgala! Later she changed into a Grecian white gown to shake a leg with her Bollywood friends!
